IN HONOR OF MY BEAUTIFUL MOM
Commissioned through Arch Design Consulting for the landmark facility designed by global architecture firm HKS (Houston Studio, led by Franne Stewart), Beauty Everlasting is a monumental tribute to resilience, memory, and the enduring power of nature. Created in honor of the artist’s mother—a proud Houstonian whose joy anchored the project’s inception—this grand-scale work stands as a permanent public installation and a testament to a love that never fades.
The painting breathes in a continuous flow state, mirroring the organic rhythm of water and the delicate, persistent vitality of floral elements. Sweeping brushwork carries a luminous energy across the canvas, intentionally fading like twilight to the west. Rich with intricate details and bursting with life, Beauty Everlasting was intentionally composed to offer a sanctuary of quiet reflection, hope, and deep sensory comfort for patients, families, and caregivers alike.
The profound title of this masterwork carries its own beautiful piece of musical providence. For years, the artist had sung along to the soulful melodies of legendary Texas singer-songwriter Jimmy LaFave—a dear friend of her sister whom they had both traveled to see live countless times. One afternoon, while driving home toward Weston, Jimmy’s song “Rain Falling Down” began to play. As his voice delivered the lyrics—“Glory hallelujah what a sight for sore eyes / Beauty everlasting comes at such a price”—the words struck the artist with absolute clarity. It was a perfect description of her mother. Speaking aloud to her car cabin, the artist said, “Thank you, Jimmy,” knowing her monumental commission finally had her true name. Loving the possibility that through this sacred tapestry of melody, Jimmy's musical grace and her mother's enduring spirit keep watch over the hospital hallways together.
